What this course covers

A methodologically sound study can still fail to publish if its manuscript does not communicate within the conventions of peer-reviewed discourse. This course moves beyond generic writing guidance to the architectural and argumentative conventions that distinguish publishable manuscripts from rejected submissions. Participants develop mastery of IMRAD structure, scholarly argumentation, literature positioning, abstract construction, and revision strategy — producing a publication-ready manuscript within the course duration. Learning outcomes • Construct each IMRAD section per the conventions of target-journal audiences and editorial boards • Develop an introduction that demonstrates gap awareness using the Swales CARS model • Write methods that provide replication transparency within target word limits • Present results with precision and parsimony, separating findings from interpretation • Construct a discussion that relates findings to the literature and addresses limitations with candor • Write 250-word structured and unstructured abstracts optimized for indexing and discoverability Assessment & deliverables A full IMRAD manuscript draft; a structured abstract (250 words); a peer-review simulation with written critique; a response-to-reviewer letter exercise.
